Borderland: A study to visualise the blurred frontier between reality and illusion

This project explores the borderland between reality and illusion and considers how this might be communicated in an animated short film. Illusion represents the outpouring of the unconscious into consciousness that individuals experience as reality. States of delusional perception and hallucination tend to be rationalised and devalued whereas they should be embraced as an integral and enriching dimension of self. The research aims to investigate ways to communicate to a wider audience a character's illusory state in relation to depictions of "reality". By means of creative synthesis this project explores audiovisual and narrative methods to immerse the viewer into the protagonist's subjective world and to reflect his shifts between self belief and self doubt, sanity and insanity in unique but coherent ways.

This is another rewrite of my abstract (see also the permanent collection of abstracts).
